Lorna & Dan's Wedding

Lorna & Dan were married at the amazing Merchant Adventurers' Hall in York. I photographed Lorna's brother Lee's wedding back in 2012 and so I was thrilled when Lorna got in touch to ask if I was available for her's and Dan's big day.

What an awesome venue. So unique, special and atmospheric. It's tucked away down Fossgate in York, and construction began in 1357! I'd highly recommend it if you're on the hunt for a venue.

Lorna & Dan very kindly answered these questions for the blog:

Venue - The Merchant Adventurers' Hall, York

Dress - My dress was from the White Closet in West Didsbury, Manchester and it was by Jenny Packham. I wore my mum's veil (my something old).

Accessories - My shoes were No. 1 Jenny Packham at Debenhams. My pearl necklace was my something borrowed from one of my bridesmaids, Pamela.

Suits - Dans suit was Ted Baker from Moss Bros and the best man wore his own suit.

Which of your suppliers would you recommend? - Probably all of them! In particular the caterer, Bradshaws of York, were fabulous; the food was delicious and they did all the scheduling of the day, acted as toastmaster etc. We've had many complements from our friends and family on the food. The venue was gorgeous and perfect for our day. Our flowers were from Garden of Eden Florist, they were really beautiful. We also used Club Class Entertainment for the evening DJ Karl Mullen played the piano during the ceremony.

Honeymoon - We went to Taormina in Sicily. We went on day trips to Siracusa, the Alcantara Gorges, Mount Etna, and saw the opera at the Greek Theatre overlooking the sea in Taormina.

Favourite memory from the day - Lorna: Dan turning round to look at me as I walked down the aisle. Seeing all of our friends and family there to share the day with us. The amazing food. The dancing! Mums friends peeking through the gates at us. Too many to list!

Dan: Seeing Lorna for the first time walking up the aisle was breath taking. The best mans speech was also a highlight for me.

Advice to other couples - Enjoy it. It can be quite stressful with so much to plan, but it's also really fun. My bridesmaid, Rachel, said to me of her own wedding planning, 'if it wasn't fun I didn't do it', and that's a good thing to keep in mind. Also, it's great to delegate to family and friends if they have any particular skills. Most people will be really pleased to be asked to help out and it will take the pressure off you - for example Lee did our invitations and table plan, etc.
