Dianne & Chris's Wedding

Dianne & Chris were married at St. Helen's RC Church, Auckland followed by a reception at the fantastic Wynyard Hall. Both are brilliant venues, and it was great to be given permission to photograph the ceremony by the Father who was conducting the service. We've photographed a few weddings with a full catholic mass, it's always very atmospheric with all the incense smoke.

We'd met with Dianne, Chris and their daughter Imogen at the start of June for their pre-wedding meeting & photoshoot and it was great to see them all again on the wedding day.

Dianne very kindly answered these questions for the blog:

Wedding date - 30th June 2013

Venue - St. Helen's Church, Auckland & Wynyard Hall

Dress - The wedding Dress is from “Wild Brides at Heart” bridal shop Durham and the designer was Madeline Gardner.

Accessories - My jewellery was a wedding gift that I received from Chris on the morning of the wedding, and it is Tiffany, the shoes were a gift from Shaneen (Bridesmaid)

Suits - Bakers Tailoring Middlebrough, Paul at Bakers offered a top class service and the suits were nice and light weight for the summer heat.

Which of your suppliers would you recommend? - We were really happy with all of our suppliers and would recommend every one of them…. We would highlight the following…

Our wedding band Hip Operation they were amazing, came highly recommended and well worth the money, they filled the dance floor all night with their energetic performance and kept our guests entertained with a range of music to suite everyone, easy to see why they won best band at the National Wedding Awards!!

Wynyard Hall is a fantastic venue and it’s easy to see why couples continue to be drawn to the hall, we felt a little let down by Wynyard in the planning stages, however both of our master of ceremonies on the day were superb, ourselves and our guests were well looked after and they made sure our wedding day ran like clockwork.

Audley Travel organised our honeymoon, they were outstanding, we had a dedicated travel advisor, Angela who helped us decide on our itinerary. We had a direct number for her and it was only ever Angela we spoke to regarding our trip, not a thing was overlooked, we received plenty of information regarding the area we were traveling to and what we would be doing, they even offer a honeymoon gift list service.

Last but not least Simon and Alison……. Wedding photographs are the one thing you keep and look back on in years to come, and they have to be right!! Simon and Alison were great to work with and made us really relaxed, having the pre wedding ensured we had an idea what to expect on the wedding day.  Having Alison on hand as a second photographer was also a real advantage, enabling the wedding to be recorded from two different perspectives, a big thanks to everything you did on the day.

Honeymoon - The day after the wedding we headed off to spent a night at Rockliffe Hall near Darlington, prior to departing for our Honeymoon the next day.  Rockliffe Hall was fantastic, we spent time in the Spa and had dinner evening, after such a busy wedding day it was so relaxing to spend time together alone prior to departing on Honeymoon.  We flew with Emirates from Newcastle via Dubai to Singapore, we spent two nights in Singapore, before a further flight to Yogyakarta, on the island of Java in Indonesia, here we spent three nights, visiting some of the Hindu and Buddhist temples in the area.  The highlight of this part of the trip (apart from the 4am start!!) was the trip to the Buddhist temple at Borobudur, where we watched the sunrise over two of Javas volcanos.

On the next section of the trip we flew to Kalimantan, in the Indonesian part of Borneo, from there we boarded a klotok, (a traditional river boat) and headed off into the jungle, we spent three nights in Borneo, stayed for two nights in a jungle lodge and one night on the klotok in the middle of the rainforest.  We visited three of the orangutan feeding stations including the famous camp leakey. One of the orangutan’s encounters was a bit too close for comfort, when one wandered into the visitors centre, and decided it wanted to empty the contents of our rucksack!! Luckily the rangers soon tempted it away with some peanuts!

After three nights in the Jungle we were ready for some luxury, we flew to Bali, where we spent 6 nights, 3 in central Bali (Ubud) and 3 nights by the beach in Seminyak.  The accommodation at the Chedi Club in Ubud was first class, the hotel only has 20 villas so the place is very quiet private and relaxed, the hotel is surrounded by lush green paddy fields which you look out onto, from your private pool.

Favourite memory from the day - At the end of the wedding speeches, we received a surprise gift from Imogen, with the help Victoria (of one of our bridesmaids) she had recorded a lovely poem, this was then played back for all our guests to hear.  It has to be one of the most emotional moments of the day, there was hardly a dry eye in the room when the cd came to an end, even the wedding co-ordinator from Wynyard admitted she had a tear in her eye!! We were then presented with a framed copy of the poem along with a picture drawn by Imogen and some photos from our pre wedding photo shoot with Simon and Alison.  We owe a big thanks to Victoria for all her hard work in making our day one to remember and helping give a gift that we will treasure forever.

Advice to other couples - Plan ahead, and give yourselves plenty of time to organise you big day…….. the one thing we did not want to was have a last minute rush of jobs that need completing in the week before the wedding. Most elements were sorted out on plenty of time so we could just enjoy the build-up to the big day without the stress of loads of last minute jobs that needed organising.

One tip for the Groom’s… buy or hire a spare shirt to get changed into prior the evening reception, it can get pretty warm in a waistcoat and jacket all day (especially in the summer), being able to have a quick freshen up and put on a clean shirt was a big bonus.
